INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT POLICY

Our Indigenous Engagement Vision: “We will achieve enduring and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities in which we operate”.


It is our priority to utilize employees from the local areas in which we work, so that we can provide opportunities for indigenous workers to be employed in meaningful career orientated work.

Byers Group, a subsidiary of Byers Energy Service Ltd. is committed to working with Indigenous communities in a way that respects their cultures and supports the development of those communities in which the company operates. The application of this policy will create enduring and mutually beneficial relationships between Byers Group and Indigenous communities in which we operate. This policy will focus on cultural heritage, employment and training, economic development, community capacity and corporate social responsibility. To achieve our vision we will:

  • Recognize and respect Indigenous people’s achievement to the land and importance of Indigenous cultural heritage by:

    • Managing the impact of its operations;

    • Doing business in a way that recognizes and respects the rights and interest of Indigenous communities;

    • Seeking to raise awareness and knowledge of traditional land use.

  • Engage with Indigenous communities across the lifecycle of new project and existing operations by:

    • Seeking to fully inform Indigenous communities and consult with them on the likely impacts and opportunities arising from our activities;

    • Providing Indigenous communities with the opportunity to reach agreements with us on new projects where practical and appropriate.

  • Work with communities to provide specific employment, training and procurement initiatives to:

    • Increase the number of Indigenous tradespeople and entry level employment within Byers Group;

    • Develop partnerships with Indigenous people, community organizations and government in the delivery of Indigenous employment and training outcomes;

    • Collaborate with Indigenous communities, business and individual community members to identify potential employment and contracting opportunities.

As President, I am committed to working with our staff and subcontractors to ensure that this policy is communicated, understood, accepted and successfully implemented by all employees and contractors.
